CEN-CENELEC Workshop, Athens, Greece

11-12 July 2018

INACHUS organized a CEN-CENELEC Workshop under the title "Interoperability framework for functional components of a modular search and rescue robotic platform". The proposed CWA aims to provide recommendations to enable interoperability between urban search and rescue (USaR) robotic platforms and the equipment, sensors and tools that are attached to them. This CWA is also intended to provide guidance on the principles for enabling USaR robotic platforms to operate in all ground search environments. In this way a generic platform can be adapted, designed and built for any possible search and rescue (SAR) scenario on the ground.

INACHUS 9th Plenary meeting

16,17/April/2018

The 9th plenary meeting of INACHUS project was successfully held in Weeze, Germany on April 16-17, 2018. The partners had a chance to present their work and to participate to workshops for WP11 activities about ethics on Tuesday 17 April. Those two fruitful days with a lot of exchanges between partners and end users were followed by the Exploitation and Dissemination Workshop one Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19. The pilot 3 ended the week on Friday 20 April (see above for more Information).

INACHUS 3rd Pilot

The third field test of INACHUS project took place on April 20th in Weeze, Germany. Victims localization tools, secure communication system and Common Operational Picture and Emergency Support System were demonstrated and evaluated by 14 end users from all over Europe. #INACHUS #INSARAG #USAR

INACHUS Exploitation Workshop

INACHUS Exploitation Clustering Workshop with 7 relevant RnD projects, took place in Weeze, Germany on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th April 2018. The purpose of the workshop was to identify potential synergies between these projects and moreover, to find integration opportunities of INACHUS components to other projects and vice versa.

The participants of the workshop were the above projects:

Driver+, beAware, CAMELOT, ANYWHERE, TOXI-Triage, IN-PREP, INACHUS.

More similar activities are foreseen in the near future.

Pilot Demonstration of the integrated INACHUS system at Training Base Weeze, Germany

As the project enters its final year, INACHUS partners are eager to show our progress so far and gather feedback in our 3rd Pilot, which marks the first demonstration of the integrated INACHUS system. This will be a hands-on, interactive day, where USaR professionals are invited to test the system.

INACHUS aims to aid many USaR processes, from victim detection and localisation, to wide-area situational awareness, structural failure prediction as well as coordination of large-scale response missions. INACHUS tools and prototypes to be demonstrated include:

Robot Snake controller and user interface.

- Sensors/radars for detection of signs of life: slight motions, vibrations under the rubble, various gases, body heat

- Camera, microphone, speaker

Radar system to detect motion through the rubble.

Seismic sensors with a heat map interface pinpointing the detection location, allowing users to visualize the source of sounds.

Common Operational Picture tool integrating data from other tools to improve sense making.

INACHUS Portal and Mobile Application aiding coordination, prioritization and decision making.

INACHUS Exploitation Booster Workshop, Eibar Spain

INACHUS Exploitation Booster Workshop which took place in Eibar, Spain on Friday 10/11/2017 was provided by the Commission in order to assist the partners with respect the business plan development!

The presentation was held by Dr.Mogyorosi and it was really helpful towards the exploitation of INACHUS as a whole system, and on top of this, the individual exploitation of INACHUS components.

8th Plenary Meeting, Eibar Spain

The 8th Plenary Meeting and Workshops of the INACHUS project were held in Eibar, Spain on November 8-10, 2017. The event took place in the Tekniker premises and more than thirty-five participants attended the meeting representing the whole INACHUS consortium.

The plenary meeting took place on the first day and began with a welcome speech from Vasilis Sourlas, Project Technical Manager, who gave an overview of the thematic focus areas for the discussions that followed. A summary of the activities carried out and achieved results was a also presented. One of the main subjects of the first day was the presentation of each work package by their leader. The second day was dedicated to workshops sessions for most work packages and to the Simulated Exercises of the WP3 tools. The Simulated Exercises were carried out with success by EMI and very good feedback from the end users present were gathered. The third day was dedicated to the Business Plan Development Workshop by an Expert from the EC. The plenary meeting confirmed the good progress of the project.

INACHUS Integration meeting, Eibar Spain

The first Integration workshop of INACHUS project was held in Eibar, Spain on November 7 2017. Its objective was to partially validate the INACHUS hard real-time interoperations (WP5->ECS->WP7->WP6) and evaluate if a second real-time integration workshop would be necessary. Activities realized during the workshop include: physical assemble and deploy of the communication infrastructure (Mobile gateways) and RTLS, install software involved components (Real Time Gateway and MIFE), up and run sensor processors, verifications and validations tests of the integration, code corrections and finally register of results (Traceability for Quality assurance).

As final conclusion of the Workshop the dataflow that involves the ECS integrated with the robot sensors and RTLS, the mobile gateway(s), the Real Time Gateway and the MIFE was validated. A second physical integration workshop will be organized for January in Trondheim that will include also the robot in the real-time dataflow tests.

7th Plenary, Lyon France

The 7th Plenary Meeting and Workshops of the INACHUS project were held in Lyon, France, June 1st and 2d 2017. The event took place at the Rhône Departmental school of firefighters premises and more than thirty-five participants attended the meeting representing the whole INACHUS consortium.

The plenary meeting took place on the first day and began with a welcome speech from George Athanasiou, Project Technical Manager, who gave an overview of the thematic focus areas for the discussions that followed and presented a summary of the activities carried out and achieved results. One of the main subjects of the first day was the presentation of each work package by their leader. The second day was dedicated to workshops sessions for most work packages and to the pilot 2 feedback. The meeting confirmed the good progress of the project.

2nd EC Review Meeting

February, 24th Athens,Greece

The second EC review of the INACHUS project was held on February 24th in Athens, Greece, in the presence of our Project Officer and European Commission Experts. All work package leaders presented the second year project achievements, and demonstrations of the victim localization tools were performed. The outcomes of this meeting were very positives with a real interest of the EC for the project technical activities.

6th plenary meeting

November 7-9, 2017

The 6th Plenary Meeting and Workshops of the INACHUS project were held in Freiburg, Germany, from 7th to 9th November 2016. The event took place at EMI’s premises and more than thirty participants attended the meeting representing the whole INACHUS consortium.

The plenary meeting took place on the first day and began with a welcome speech from Angelos Amditis, project Coordinator, who gave an overview of the thematic focus areas for the discussions that followed and presented a summary of the activities carried out and achieved results. One of the main subjects of the first day was the preparation of the second field test of the project that will be held in France, in March-April 2017. The second and third days were dedicated to workshops sessions for most work packages. The meeting confirmed the good progress and good understanding among the different partners of the consortium.

On the third day, in the frame of the INACHUS clustering activities, the INACHUS consortium welcomed the European project H2020 MOBNET, for which two partners made a very interesting presentation. The main objective of MOBNET is to locate isolated victims during natural disasters and situations of emergency such as earthquakes, hurricanes or large snowstorms. MOBNET will also help first responder services to find lost people in general. To that end, the use of EGNSS (both Galileo early services and EGNOS) and DCT (Digital Cellular Technologies) plays a key role in situations where it is difficult, dangerous or even impossible to access the affected areas. MOBNET will be designed and built as a reduced SWaP, on-board payload for a UAV.

Many links between the two projects were highlighted by the partners : the use of drones, the localization of personal devices, the location of victims during disasters, etc.

INACHUS 1st EC review

June 22, 2016

The first EC review of the INACHUS project was held on June 22d in Athens, Greece, in the presence of Dr Gilles DUSSERRE, European Commission Expert. All work package leaders presented the first year project achievements, and demonstrations of the victim localization tools were performed. A video of the building collapse simulation was also showed (can be seen in the video folder of our web site). The outcomes of this meeting were very positives with a real interest of the EC for the project technical activities.

5th plenary meeting

June 16-17, 2016

The 5th Plenary Meeting and Workshop of the INACHUS project was held in Stockholm, Sweden from 16th until 17th June 2016. The event took place at the Clarion Hotel and more than forty participants attended the meeting representing the whole INACHUS consortium.

The plenary meeting took place the first day and began with a welcome address from Angelos Amditis, project Coordinator, who gave an overview of the thematic areas of focus for the discussions that followed and presented a summary of the realised activities and achieved results. The second day was focused on workshops sessions for most work packages. The meeting confirmed the good progress and good understanding among the different partners of the consortium.

This meeting followed the first field test of INACHUS project that took place in the training centre of Ågesta near Stockholm. During this pilot, prototypes of the victim localization tools developed by INACHUS were tested in close to real conditions alongside with an early version of the ESS/COP. INACHUS first field test held in Stockholm, Sweden

June 15, 2016

The first field test of the INACHUS project was held in Ågesta, near Stockholm, Sweden, on 15 June 2016 with the main target of testing the performance of the current version of the victim localisation sensorial solutions. As a great opportunity to inform USaR specialists about INACHUS project developments, 7 technical demonstrations were performed with the participation of end users from Sweden, The Netherlands and France.

After the Table Top Exercise (TTE) in Toulouse, March 2016, where end users participated in a virtual USaR (Urban Search and Rescue) scenario implying the whole INACHUS platform, the first field test was an opportunity to evaluate the victim localisation tools in a real environment. The main tools developed by the INACHUS consortium for this purpose are the INACHUS robot (innovative as it brings high technology sensors close to trapped victims for a better and faster localisation), a Seismic and Acoustic Sensor and a Mobile Phone Catcher.

In brief, the INACHUS robot will integrate:

a video camera assisted by a powerful light so end users can get a clear view of the unattainable parts of the rubble;

an infrared camera, to detect possible living victims;

an electronic chemical nose, to measure specific gases showing living human presence;

a doppler radar, to detect slight movements such as victim breathing;

a two way communication system, to allow end users to communicate with the victim and collect information.

The INACHUS robot operation is assisted by two high technology tools, also tested during the Pilot:

a seismic and acoustic sensor to detect and locate small noise from victims;

a mobile phone detector to detect and locate victim personal mobile devices hidden in the rubble.

The early version of the ESS/COP (Emergency Support System/ Common Operational Picture) interface developed in agreement with INSARAG guidelines was also demonstrated.

The field test was attended by 11 end users, who were very interested in the innovative approach offered by the INACHUS victim localisation tools and they are also looking forward to the operational and easy-to-use interfaces. The first field test was successful. The next appointment was set up for the second field test early in 2017, where 3D mapping and collapse modelling tools will be tested.

4th plenary meeting

March 14-17, 2016

On 14-17th March 2016, was held the 4th plenary meeting of the INACHUS project. As a great opportunity to inform end users about INACHUS project developments, different events were carried out alongside.

The purpose of the first Technology Implementation end user workshop was to articulate a relevant recommendation, acting as a roadmap for technology implementation deriving from the project.

A Technical demonstration of the Wide Area Surveillance Tools for Monitoring of Collapsed Buildings was performed in real conditions to illustrate the performance of the 3D mapping tools. Three UAVs were deployed (one carrying a laser camera and two with visible imaging) and a scanning of the area was performed.

To illustrate the concept of the project and to test the efficiency of project architecture at an early stage,the first Table Top Exercise (TTE) of the INACHUS project was performed. Seven INSARAG specialists, end users from Sweden, the Netherlands and France were invited to play a simulated USaR operation (an earthquake in an urban area, city of Menton, South of France) using the INACHUS tools. The scope of the exercise was to gather useful feedback from the end users on tool developments and e project architecture.

The main outcome of these meetings was the improvement of end user awareness on the INACHUS project tools and the operational interest for USaR teams. The next step is the first field test (Pilot 1) amongst the four scheduled during the project life span, that will be held in Sweden in June 2016.

3rd plenary meeting

November 4-6, 2015

The 3rd Plenary Meeting and Workshop of the INACHUS project was held in Rome, Italy from 4th until 6th November 2015. The event took place at the Hotel Savoy and more than thirty participants attended the meeting representing the whole INACHUS consortium.

The plenary began with a welcome address from Angelos Amditis, project Coordinator, who gave an overview of the thematic areas of focus for the discussions that followed and presented a summary of the realised activities and achieved results.

The meeting confirmed the good progress and good understanding among the different partners of the consortium. Finally during the last day, the members of the Consortium visited the earthquake-damaged Italian city of L'Aquila and discussed with Italian Firefighters and USaR specialists.
